How to Organize a Canned Food Drive for Food For Life Network (FFLN)
Step 1: Get Approval
If you aren’t the group leader, meet with your supervisor or teacher to obtain permission. Explain that Food For Life Network (FFLN) is the only Miami-Dade non-profit dedicated solely to feeding men, women, and children living with chronic illnesses.
Step 2: Set a Measurable Goal
Motivate your team by setting a clear target. Aim for a specific number, such as 500 cans or 5 full collection containers.
Step 3: Create a Friendly Competition
Boost participation by turning the drive into a contest:
- Divide participants into teams (e.g., by department or grade level).
- Have teams pick fun names like “The Bean Pushers.”
- Offer a prize for the winners, such as a pizza party, a casual dress day, or a half-day off.
Step 4: Promote with Flyers
Design a simple, colorful, and informative flyer. Post it in high-traffic areas like break rooms, restrooms, employee lounges, and digital newsletters.
Step 5: Prepare Collection Bins
Use clean, heavy-duty trash cans or large boxes. Decorate them and clearly display:
- The FFLN logo and mission statement.
- The deadline for donations.
- A reminder that expired or dented cans cannot be accepted due to regulations.
Step 6: Send Regular Reminders
Keep the momentum going through email or public announcements. Share “countdown” updates, such as: “We have collected 250 cans—only 250 more to reach our goal!”
Step 7: Finalize & Thank Everyone
Remember to thank everyone for their help! Follow these delivery guidelines based on your total:
- 200+ cans: Call 305-576-FOOD (3663) to schedule a pickup.
- Under 200 cans: Please deliver to:
